Cairo
Transport - Probably the best way to get
around the city is to take a guided tour, which will
take you to the various attractions. This way you
don’t have to worry about driving or finding
alternate transportation.
There is a system of Tramways and Buses
that serve most of the city of Cairo. It tends to
be very crowded and some say unreliable. There is
a subway though it only services a small area of the
city.
It has been said that a Taxi is
the most recommended means of transportation for tourists
that are visiting the area. They are white and black
and can be stopped anywhere in Cairo by waving to
the driver. Be sure to budget this into your trip
so you have enough money if you plan to take a taxi
wherever you are going.
There are various Rental Car Agencies in
Cairo. Hertz, Avis, Alamo have offices in
the city and at the airport and that is just to name
a few, but driving in Cairo is not easy so be prepared.
You will also need an international driver’s
license too. In the US you can acquire one at AAA
for about $10.00. You will want to have a good map
with you at all times if you are planning to drive
around the area. Follow all the rules of the road
and obey parking signs to avoid getting any fines
during your trip.
Since walking is going to happen. All the attractions
in the area require walking to see the sites you will
wish to bring a couple pairs of good walking shoes
so that you are comfortable. However you decide to
get around the city we are sure you will enjoy it
as much as the millions of other people that come
to see the city of Cairo each and
every year.
